Finding space for all the things in a school counseling office can be challenging. I’ve used many tricks over the years but I’ve never been as excited as I am over these. Check out these fun hacks for your school counselor office using an over the door pantry organizer.
Coping Tools and Fidgets
Fidgets are an important part of a school counseling program because they provide stress relief for everyone. You will find students and teachers using these when they visit the office. Displaying them on the wall will keep them from being scattered around your office. Read more about using fidgets effectively in a classroom setting here.
Showcase brochures that you get at conferences and professional development meetings. You can grab 25 interactive social emotional brochures to fill up this entire organizer.
There’s never enough room for markers and all of the little craft items that we collect. I have washi tape that doesn’t stick anymore because I forgot about it. At least I’m more likely to use it if I can see it.
Having small stuffed animals on hand can help to gain trust with younger students. Use them in small groups for playing hot potato. Grieving students can pick out a helper to get them through a tough time.
Snacks are always good to keep on hand for students or teachers who forget their lunch. You could choose healthier options than I did. They are also good to use when finishing up a small group.
Bookmarks are an inexpensive give-a-way to use for student birthdays or anytime. I make them for every topic so I can grab them when a student is dealing with a specific issue. “There’s a bookmark for that.” They are included in my brochures bundle.
About Me Display
Showcase student “About Me” brochures at the beginning of the year or throughout the year for small groups. (Grab the This is Me brochures.)
There are so many ways to use these pantry organizers. I can imagine printing number cards and using it as a countdown tool or for challenges. You could also use it to display your bucket filling campaign. Each opening could represent a bucket to fill. My next project is to print out my counseling card decks and use one just for those. Do you have any other fun ideas for using these? Leave me a comment.
